Description Size: a little over 5/8 inch Material: Sterling silver This medal features Our Lady of Guadalupe on the front and St Christopher on the reverse. It has a lovely scalloped edge. On December 9, 1531, on his way to mass, a native American named Juan Diego saw a vision of a young woman who spoke to him in his native language and asked for a church to be built on that spot in her honor. He reported the apparition and was asked by the archbishop to return to him with a sign from the lady. When Juan Diego returned to the spot, roses were blooming there and the lady told him to take some to the archbishop. Juan Diego wrapped them in his cloak, or tilma, and when he opened it to show the archbishop the roses, an image of the lady was imprinted on the fabric of the cloak. This image and the apparition became known as Our Lady of Guadalupe and may be seen in Mexico City to this day. It was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
