Description Size: 3/4 inch Material: Sterling silver This lovely double medal features St Francis de Sales on one side, and St Jane de Chantal on the other. St Francis de Sales is shown in his bishop?s robes and Jane is shown holding a crucifix in one hand and the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the other. St Francis de Sales was born in 1567 to French nobility and was taught dancing, swordsmanship, riding, and graduated from law school. To his father’s surprise he refused a beautiful bride and turned down a seat in the senate of Savoy to become a priest. Eventually he became the bishop of the strongly Calvinist city of Geneva. Through his gentle demeanor and powerful sermons, he converted almost everyone in the town back to Catholicism. Jane de Chantal was born in 1572. At age 20 she married the Baron of Chantal and had 4 children. Sadly, her husband died eight years later in a hunting accident, and Jane had to live with her father-in-law who was demanding and difficult. She dreamt of a man who would be her spiritual director and recognized him when she met St Francis de Sales. They became friends; and with him, she founded The Order of the Visitation of Our Lady for women who wanted to become a nun, but couldn’t join a typical religious order due to age, health, or other considerations. The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece.
