St John became known as the “beloved disciple” because was the only disciple who didn’t desert Jesus during his passion. He was so faithful that one of Christ’s last acts was to make John the guardian of his mother, Mary. He wrote many books of the Bible: the fourth Gospel, three Epistles, and the book of Revelation. After the crucifixion he lived mostly in Ephesus and Jerusalem and founded many churches. At the end of his life, he was exiled to the island of Patmos. He lived to a very old age and survived all the other apostles, dying around the year 100.
