Description This medal features a lifelike portrait of St Josemaria Escriba in a cassock. The inscription around the edge is in Latin and reads “Josemaria Escriva de Balauger A Joanne Paulus II PP” (Josemaria Escriva Balauger and John Paul II PP” Unfortunately I have been unable to make out the rest of the inscription. The reverse shows the Virgin Mary being crowned by angels. St Josemaria Escriva was the founder of the Opus Dei, a Catholic organization that is dedicated to teaching that everyone is called to holiness and that ordinary life can be a path to sanctity. When he died in 1975 at the age of 73, Opus Dei numbered over 60,000 and could be found on five continents. It was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece.
