This is due to their long hatch time, mobility of the adults and the hardiness of their eggs.Vapona is an invertebrate pest exterminator product developed in Africa. It consists of an insecticide impregnated PVC strip, packed in a heat-sealed aluminium envelope, allowing a shelf life of up to 5 years. Once opened the pesticide is released through a reaction with the air around it and vaporises to create an effective insecticidal atmosphere lasting for up to 90 days.All Vapona products are registered with the South African Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) and are manufactured in a strictly controlled environment.Vapona was developed for the treatment of Cockroaches, Ants, Flies and Mosquitos; though will also work against mites, fleas and other invertebrates.How to use against mites: Vapona works well as a mite treatment as it kills all invertebrate life and remains effective for up to 90 days meaning it will work against all mites that have freshly hatched in the environment. For effective treatment a small amount of the PVC strip should be cut off and placed into the infected animals enclosure; use approximately 1cm cube for every 60cm cube of enclosure volume. It is important that the animal cannot come into contact with the Vapona, so the cube should be placed inside a plastic container with air holes to allow the pesticide to spread into the environment without the animal touching it. It is also recommended to use a container that will not easily fit inside the animals water bowl to prevent it being knocked into the bowl and then contaminating the water supply. This should be left for 90 days and then removed as it will no longer be effective.For the best results it is also recommended to bathe the snake to remove as many mites as possible prior to starting the treatment. The enclosure should have the majority of it’s natural décor removed with only plastic and resin hides remaining; the substrate should be switched to newspaper, paper or paper towel. The removal of all décor and particulate substrate will ensure any mites remaining have nowhere to lay their eggs and also have less places to hide, this will ensure the treatment reaches them.Precautions:  This product is toxic. Always wear gloves when handling this product. Wash hands thoroughly after use. When cutting do not use a kitchen knife, or any item that may be later used for food. Do not place in water. Use sparingly. Do not ingest.
