Description Size: 5/8 inch Material: Sterling silver This detailed medal shows St Peregrine being healed of his cancer by a vision of Jesus. The reverse shows the blessed Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows. St Peregrine was born in 1260 in Italy. He was a strident anti-Catholic; and during a popular revolt, he struck St Philip Benizi, the papal mediator, in the face. When St Philip calmly turned the other cheek, Peregrine was so impressed that he decided to convert to Catholicism. He joined the Servite order and to atone for his previous behavior he didn’t allow himself to sit down or speak for the next 30 years. Once he did speak he was an excellent preacher and confessor. He was diagnosed with cancer of the foot and an amputation was recommended. He was miraculously and totally cured by a vision of Jesus the night before the operation was scheduled. He died peacefully in 1345. The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
