Her parents tried to arrange a marriage for her, but she refused all suitors and became a Dominican lay-sister at age 15 and later experienced a mystical marriage with Christ in which he put a ring on her finger. She dedicated her life to working with the poor and needy and became an advisor to Pope Gregory XI and Pope Urban VI. She died in 1378 in Rome.
