St Ignatius of Loyola was born to Spanish nobility in 1491. He served as a page for King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella and went on to become a soldier. During a battle his leg was shattered by a cannon ball. During his recovery he only had a book about the lives of the saints and “The Life of Christ”. Reading and contemplating them changed Ignatius. He went on to become a great priest and founded The Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). He traveled the world spreading the gospel and finally retired in Rome to direct the Jesuits.
