All safety drum vents automatically relieve internal pressure between 21 and 55 kPa (3 to 8 psi) and include a flame arrester to absorb and safely dissipate heat. The valve inside the drum vent is tested to allow 1 litre (61 cubic inches) of water to flow through a 9.5 mm (3/8-inch) pipe nipple in under 6 seconds, providing vacuum relief during drum dispensing. This ensures smooth liquid flow and helps prevent drum collapse or leakage. Vacuum relief operates automatically on vertically-installed vents and manually on horizontally-installed vents. Safety fill vents and funnels are designed to fit the 51 mm (2-inch) bung of vertically-stored drums. The brass vent provides automatic pressure and vacuum relief, and comes with a brass cap secured by a safety chain to prevent loss or misplacement. The cap should be removed during drum filling operations.
